The self-government of physicians performs its tasks by means of:
awarding the right to practice the profession of a physician or dentist and keeping the register of physicians and dentists;
negotiating conditions of work and remuneration;
making decisions on matters relating to fitness to practice as a physician or dentist;
co-operating in the field of continuing professional development;
chairing selection commissions in the procedure of nominating heads of hospital wards and participating in the procedures of nominating other healthcare managers;
delivering opinion on draft legislation concerning health protection and exercise of the medical professions or calling for legislative actions in this field;
delivering opinions and making motions regarding under- and postgraduate training of physicians and dentists;
conducting research in the field of health protection and exercise of the medical professions;
acting as medical courts in matters involving professional liability of physicians and dentists, as well as amicable courts;
defending individual and collective interests of members of the self-government of physicians and dentists;
co-operating with public administration agencies, political organizations, trade unions as well as other social organizations in matters concerning protection of human health and conditions of exercising the medical professions.
